OVERVIEW ON THE SITUATION OF ORPFANS IN TOGO

Overview on the situation of orphans in Togo

After a study on orphans in the surrounding villages of Lomé, we found they are many. Most of them do the best they can, some being hosted by their grandparents, uncles, aunts ....... etc others being supported by themselves they are poor, malnourished, they are not in schools, can not learn apprenticeship ... they have no chance to secure future.

  Indeed, the low income of farmers, relative to investment in education, health and lack of access to drinking water are the most important causes of poverty in Togo. Households with a high number of children have a higher probability to be very poor. It was the same for households whose heads are less educated.
To contribute to the fight against poverty in Togo, VOLON.T.E aims to promote education and vocational training for destitute orphans by contributing efficiently to the development of the education system, health, family life and professional training.
The child, by reason of his physical and mental immaturity, needs protection, special assistance and special care after the declaration of the rights of the child. In Togo, despite the various actions in favor of children, the number of children languishing under the weight of the physical and moral suffering is extremely high. We encounter every day the violation of children's rights, the deprivation of smile of a large number of children at the detriment of deep pain that covers their face. Encountered in almost all areas of Togo, various difficult situations in which children live, including:
 -Lack of parental or familial affection
 -Violence and severe corrections afflicted to children
 -The hard work or difficult tasks required of children and that often exceed their force
 -The abuse of children in economic and domestic activities to the detriment of the school.
 -Lack of adequate education and basic social protection leading to the situation of street           children
 -Sexual abuse practiced on young girls pushing child prostitution, etc.........

   This situation has a direct or indirect impact on children's development, even on the society as a whole and is a time bomb. It is clear that for the full and harmonious development of his personality, the child needs to grow in a climate of favorable affection and understanding. However, for most of these abused children, no future is assured them if not social vices such as: crime, gangsterism, prostitution could have been avoided them if they had benefited of protection and effective basic education. Also, no lasting solution to these problems it can be effective if the causes are neglected. Such as:

- Lack of knowledge or information on the delicacy of the education of a child.
-The poverty of parents and their inability to fully assume their leading roles as educators of children preparing for family life
- The premature or unwanted pregnancies or uncontrolled
-Lack of knowledge of birth spacing and family planning
- HIV / AIDS and premature death of parents , especially nursing mothers
-The lack of control over the situation of recalcitrant children by parents
- The situation of parents who grew up in the same climate

While the problem is general , it is also true that these cases are much more pronounced in rural areas where the parents have not always understood in our days that the child who in old days was a source of income ( due to the occupation and use of land ) , has become a source of expenditure and poverty, and the need to restrict the number of children if we do not have means for their decent education and development.

Given this precarious situation in Togo and in the absence of the initiative taken by the State to develop an adequate education for all national policy , and the inability of parents to ensure a decent education for their children ,
VOLON.T.E aims to contribute to the education of hundreds of children in difficult situation in Togo particularly needy orphans. It is clear that the success of this ambitious project requires also important resources which leads to the research of funders for its perfect realization.
